FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR ROSEBUD COUNTY THROUGH SUNDAY
Rosebud County, Montana — September 18, 2026
A Flood Watch is now in effect for Northern and Southern Rosebud County, as a strong, slow-moving storm system brings the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms through the weekend.
The National Weather Service in Billings says the watch includes Rosebud County communities including the Lame Deer and Forsyth areas and remains in effect through Sunday evening, September 20.
CONFIRMED
The National Weather Service says unusually high atmospheric moisture combined with the slow-moving storm could produce periods of heavy rainfall.
Thunderstorms developing within the broader rain system could produce flash flooding, with particular concern around recent wildfire burn scars.
Residents should also watch for flooding in:
- Low-lying areas
- Poor-drainage locations
- Creeks and streams
- Low-water crossings
- Roads where water begins covering the roadway
IMPORTANT: WATCH VS. WARNING
A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding.
It does not mean flooding is occurring everywhere or that a Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Rosebud County.
If conditions worsen, the National Weather Service or local emergency officials may issue more urgent warnings.
SAFETY
Do not drive through a flooded roadway.
Water covering a road may be deeper or moving faster than it appears, and the roadway underneath may be damaged or washed out.
Residents near creeks, drainage areas, low crossings, and recent burn scars should remain especially alert overnight and through the weekend.
Truth in Focus will continue monitoring Rosebud County, the Northern Cheyenne Reservation, Ashland, Lame Deer, Forsyth, local roads, wildfire burn areas, and emergency notices for significant changes.
